Weatherization
Weatherization seals up a house to make it more energy efficient, allowing the house to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. One important benefit is savings on utilities bills.
CAP St. Joe offers three options for weatherization:
In St. Joseph
CAP St. Joe has received a two-year grant, using "stimulus" funds received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), provided by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Its goal is to weatherize 180 homes in St. Joseph by 2012.
This option will consist of a weatherization crew evaluating a house and sealing it to provide maximum energy savings.

In Andrew, Clinton, DeKalb and Buchanan (outside of St. Joseph) Counties
CAP St. Joe partners with Community Services, Inc. of Maryville (CSI) to provide weatherization services to these counties. This weatherization process is similar to the process for St. Joseph.

Do-it youself-ers and all community members
CAP St. Joe offers a Weatherization Life Skills Class open to the general public (you do not have to income-qualify). This class teaches participants some easy ways to weatherize their own houses. Depending on grant funds, it may also include a weatherization kit. Look for classes on our events page. |
