“Ms. Vicki’s Class:”  Teachers praise Head Start school readiness skills

In Ms. Vicki’s class, reading is serious business. The kids gather round the rug for circle time daily, sometimes reading along with their favorite books – and sometimes enjoying the company of special guest readers from around the community.

The reading and school-readiness skills are so good, in fact, that one Head Start grandparent came in excitedly with a letter in hand. She had received a letter from her grandson’s Xavier’s grade school teacher. The letter said that out of the whole class, two boys could read all the Early Literacy words for Kindergarten and would be working on the first grade list of 200 words. Those two boys were Xavier and another Head Start graduate - both from Ms. Vicki’s classroom!
