Movin’ On Up (College entrance for junior/seniors who will be first-generation college students)


Name of Specific Service Offered:  Movin’ On Up (College entrance assistance to high school students who qualify).

Dates the service is available: 
In the Senior year of high school at Central, Lafayette and Benton High Schools in St. Joseph.  We hope to expand in the fall of 2009.

Income Guidelines to get this service: 
Must be below 125% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. 

What the service gives you: 
This service provides high school seniors who are interested in attending college, but aren’t sure exactly how the process works, the support that they need to successfully apply and enroll in college.  This includes help choosing a college, writing your application essays, paying for the ACT testing fees, attending college fairs or an ACT prep class, completing the financial aid process, and any help you may need.

Where to Apply:  Your guidance counselor has the applications in his/her office, or you can contact Les to get an application or ask any questions at the CAP office, 817 Monterey, St. Joseph, Mo.

What to bring when you come to apply: 
You should bring a parent for the first visit if possible.

Once I have applied, when could I expect this service to begin?
You apply in the spring of your Junior year, or early in your Senior year, and Movin’ On Up starts in the fall of your senior year and runs through the whole year.
