Affordable Housing and Rent
A Community Action Partnership Core Program
Finding safe, decent and affordable housing is a serious challenge for low-income families. In partnership with the Missouri Housing Development Commission, the City of St. Joseph and area developers, CAP St. Joe is removing housing as a barrier to ending the cycle of poverty. We have partnered with developers to create more than 400 housing units, including apartments and single family homes, for people at or below the poverty level. Housing projects are currently in progress in Plattsburg, Mo., and St. Joseph, Mo., in addition to plans for a new program for home repair in Northwest Missouri.
Community research consistently reveals a serious need for two and three-bedroom housing for low-income families, especially in rural areas, and this is becoming a top priority for the agency — along with financial literacy and home ownership education courses.
Community Action Partnership of Greater St. Joseph contributes to improving housing for low-income individuals through the following activities:
· Offers homeownership and rental opportunities to families, seniors, and single persons whose annual incomes do not exceed eighty percent or less of the median income for the area as determined by HUD.
· Provides safe, decent and affordable housing for low- to moderate-income individuals
· Offers housing development and re-habilitation services in 9 counties throughout Northwest Missouri
· Partnered with developers to create more than 175 housing units, including apartments and single family homes
· Developed and sold new single family homes to persons with incomes of 80% or below the median income as determined by HUD
· Owns and manages 2- and 3-bedroom rental units for low- to moderate-income individuals
· Designated as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) - the only CHDO in this area.
Community Action Partnership has participated in several successful projects that have brought attractive and affordable housing to our area, including:
· Construction and sale of 7 new single-family homes, consisting of four at 9th and Powell and three at 10th and Powell in St. Joseph, Mo.
· Constructed 2 new for-sale homes on South 16th Street in St. Joseph, Mo.
· Constructed 2 new rental homes on South 21st Street in St. Joseph, Mo.
· Refurbished 2 duplexes creating 2 re-modeled three-bedroom units at 10th and Henry and 2 re-modeled three-bedroom units at 15th and Faraon, St. Joseph, Mo.
· Partnered in the refurbishment of the Townsend and Wall building in St. Joseph, Mo., creating 47 loft apartments.
· Partnered in the refurbishment of the Lofts at Landmark, a 45-unit loft development in St. Joseph, Mo.
· Partnered in the Whittington Estates project, a 40-unit senior housing Development in St. Joseph, Mo.
· Partnered in the new development of Patee Villas, a 10-unit senior living complex in St. Joseph, Mo.
· Partnered in the development and construction of White Oak Manor Apartments, creating 40 senior units in Savannah, Mo.
· Partnered in the development of Villas at the Summit, a 38-unit senior housing development in Maryville, Mo
· Currently sponsoring the redevelopment of the San Regis Apartments, creating 40 new units of affordable housing in St. Joseph, Mo.
