The American Dream:  Couple starts process for first new home

Scott and Janie were expecting their first child when they attended their first Home Ownership/ Financial Literacy class at Community Action Partnership. The program is co-hosted by U.S. Bank and provides one-on-one information and guidance toward financial stability, and information about home ownership.

Before they left the class that evening, Scott and Janie had developed a relationship with a bank representative who could help them with their home-ownership journey. The couple is pursuing the purchase of one of Community Action Partnership’s new homes, a three-bedroom with a full basement built in 2007. The home, and others like it, is available at a price $25,000 less than market value – making the dream of owning a quality, safe, new home a reality for families on limited incomes.

Community Action Partnership of Greater St. Joseph has partnered with the City of St. Joseph, the State of Missouri and area developers on nearly 400 affordable housing units.
